Cases of animal thefty in Hoima city are on rampage in Hoima city and residents have resorted to broadday mob justices in dealing with the suspects.

The most recent incident was on Sunday night when residents attacked and set a blaze a Toyota corona vehicle Registration Number UAF 732R suspectedly transporting stolen animals.

The incident ccured on the Sunday night at around 2am in Kigarama village Kyentale Ward in Hoima East division, Hoima City.

Residents suspicious of a vehicle moving late at night put barriers in the road to block the vehicle, however, the occupants took on the heels for safety and angry residents set the vehicle on fire.

Julius Hakiza, police spokperson for Albertine region told Parrots UG that two of the car occupants have been arrested and are currently being detained at Hoima Central Police Station.

He dentified one of the suspects as Godfrey Tumwesige. Hakiza said the suspects will be taken to court once investigations are complete.

Residents said the escalating cases of thefty of the domestic animals in the area has forced them to share same houses with their animals to ensure their safety.
