The government of Uganda thought the ministry of Finance has allocated Shd 50 billions in the financial year 2021/22 budget for compensation of residents who lost their cattle during the war in the Lango, Acholi and Teso regions.
This was revealed by the minister of finance Matia Kasaija while appearing before the budget committee.
Kasaija told the committee that required Shs200b to compensate all people in regions that lost their cattle.
He however added that the ministry has allocated Shs50bn in the forthcoming budget.
According to the minister, the money will be released in phases until all residents are compensated.
The compensation is part of the presidential pledges to the Acholi, Lango and Teso regions during his election campaigns.
Its is recalled that while canvassing for votes in the regions, President Museveni pledged compensation of Shs150 billion for the people who lost cattle to the rebels and Karimojong cattle rustlers.
