Radios in Kabale district have been from mentioning burial dates while reading death announcements on Air.
The area Resident District Commissioner Darius Nandinda says many people throng funerals after getting informed of the funeral dates contrary to the presidential directives on scientific burials that requires for only twenty mourners to attend burials.
“Kabale district taskforce has noticed that when you communicate the date for burial while reading death announcements many people get information and tend to attend in big numbers hence flouting presidential directives on scientific burials (not exceeding twenty people),” Nandinda said in a notice to all broadcasting radios.
He added that this is a dangerous move likely to escalate the spread of corona virus.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in his nation’s address on corona virus current situation last night said many people people are breaching the directive on burials ordering that only close family members to the deceased should attend burials.
In order to enforce this directive, the RDC has appealed to all broadcasting radios in the district not keep nondisclosure to funeral dates live on air.
“This is therefore to request you as usual partners in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic that when reading death announcements you should avoid mentioning dates for burial so that burial directive is implemented,” Nandinda appealed.
