President Museveni has extended working contract for Can Dr Johnson Byabashaija, thethe Commissioner General Uganda Prisons Services.
Earlier alone media reported that ParliamentAppointments Committee had rejected the reappointment of Byabashaija due to advanced age.
However, after legal consultations, Museveni announced the reappointed of Byabashaija.
In a letter dated April22nd,2020, directed to Internal Affairs Minister Jeje Odongo and Principal Private secretary to the president Dr Kenneth Omona, the president stated that the Speaker of Parliament had communicated to the house about the approval of Dr Byabashaija as the CG Prisons and Mr Mwanje James as the Deputy CG.
“I further wish to inform you that upon receipt of the above communication; His Excellency, the president has signed the instrument of appointment for these two officers; the letter adds that the extension is effective tomorrow.
Its a government policy not to employ pensioners but if it is necessary to do so, the pensioner may be employed on contract terms under the following circumstances; when the post to be filled requires special skills and the available suitable candidate is a pensioner.”
Accordingly,Standing Orders stipulate that the duration of service will be two years unless the Appointing Authority deems necessary.
