The medical fraternity in Mbarara City is in shock and mourning following the tragic death of Dr Rukia Abura, a postgraduate medical student specializing in anesthesiology at Mbarara University of science and technology (MUST).
Dr Abura was found lying on her back on her death bed at her residence along Bananuka Road in Kiswahili cell opposite Oxford Inn.
According to Halson Kagure, the Mbarara regional referral hospital public relations officer, a call was made by Dr Abura’s colleague at work to inquire about something but efforts to reach her were futile. Kagure revealed that they again tried calling her number but was later received by her neighbor at 11 am who told them that Abura was unconscious which prompted the ICU and anesthesia team led by Dr Emma Munyarugyero to rush to her place of residence to save her life. Despite their best efforts, Dr Abura had already passed away.
Abura’s body was later taken to the Pathology Department, where health workers were found in somber moods as her devastated colleagues watched helplessly.
Halson Kagure, a spokesperson revealed that an autopsy will be conducted to determine the exact cause of Dr Abura’s sudden death before her body is transported to her ancestral home in Lira district for burial.
