114 Congolese have flocked to Uganda side through Mpondwe Lhubiriha town council in Kasese district after being terrorized by gunmen believed to be the ADF as reported by the Deputy Resident District Commissioner. This is a developing story.
Last night gunmen raided Kasindi town in DRC and this promoted the locals to run for their lives and eventually crossed to Uganda through Mpondwe Lhubiriha border to seek asylum.
The Uganda Red Cross in coordination with UPDF and district leaders dispatched a team from the Uganda Red Cross local action and government leaders to visit the place and assess the situation and give the necessary support as one of their cardinal roles to respond to natural calamities.
The group of asylum seekers was received at Kabuyiri catholic church in Mpondwe Lhubiriha town council where they are being temporarily hosted.
According to John Cliff Wamala, the Red Cross representative, out of the 114 asylum seekers, 11 are adult males, 32 adult females and 70 children according to the preliminary reports.
