The NUP party president Hon. Kyagulanyi Robert aka Bobi wine said that the alleged gun attack on Pastor Bugingo, which tragically resulted in the death of his assistant, driver, church elder, and UPDF-SFC bodyguard, has once again highlighted the disturbing prevalence of gun violence in Uganda. While shocking, such incidents have unfortunately become all too common in the country, leaving citizens uncertain about who might be the next victim.
Regrettably, Kyagulanyi revealed that the lack of thorough investigations into these gun attacks has raised suspicions among the public. Either the regime lacks the capacity to conduct proper investigations or it is intentionally trying to cover up the identity of the perpetrators. Numerous incidents have been met with claims that critical evidence has gone missing from government storage or that case files have been stolen. Furthermore, the convenient absence of functioning CCTV cameras or missing CCTV footage only adds to the skepticism surrounding these cases.
Adding to the mistrust in state institutions is the fact that individuals who have confessed to committing heinous crimes have been arrested, only to be inexplicably released and armed again on orders ‘from above’. The absence of justice and accountability has fueled an environment where more questions arise than answers, leading some citizens to question the authenticity of the attack on Pastor Bugingo.
“In light of this event, it is important to recognize the loss of life and extend sympathies to Pastor Bugingo, his family, and all those who attend the House of Prayer Ministries. Additionally, condolences must be given to the family of the deceased, Mr. Richard Muhumuza” said Bobi wine.
Despite Pastor Bugingo displaying hostility towards those advocating for a better country, it is crucial to follow the teachings of Jesus and offer prayers and sympathy even to those who oppose us. This unfortunate incident may provide an opportunity for Pastor Bugingo to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by the country and our struggle for a better future.
Bobi wine also said the incident also serves as a reminder to all those who collaborate with the oppressive regime. In a lawless country, nobody is truly safe. Instead of aligning themselves with those in power, religious leaders must prioritize their allegiance to God and work towards bringing about positive change for the benefit of all citizens.
It is imperative that as a society, we no longer wait for such crimes to affect us personally or our loved ones before speaking out against the deteriorating situation in our country. The constant dismissal of legitimate concerns as merely political maneuvering by regime apologists must be challenged. Until these concerns are addressed and concrete actions are taken to stem the flow of guns into the wrong hands and ensure thorough investigations into crimes, the safety and security of Ugandan citizens will remain at risk.
The alleged gun attack on Pastor Bugingo highlights the pressing need for the Ugandan government to address the pervasive issue of gun violence. The lack of trust in state institutions and the frequent absence of justice only serve to exacerbate the challenges faced by the nation. It is high time for the authorities to take decisive action to restore faith in the system, bring perpetrators to justice, and guarantee the safety and well-being of all Ugandans.
