Barely a fortnight ago after 21 passengers died in Link Bus that overturned along Fort Portal- Kampala Highway, another bus belonging to same transporter has been involved in fire accident at Wakaliga traffic lights in Natete Kampala.
The incident according to ASP Luke Owoyesigyire, deputy PRO for Kampala Metropolitan Police occured last night at around 10PM when a Motor Vehicle Reg. No UBD 269A Scania belonging to Link Bus Services heading from Kasese to Kampala was caught by fire outbursts.
Owoyesigyire says police fire prevention and rescue services officers responded on time and fortunately, the fire had been extinguished by other first responders using a nearby fire extinguisher, water, and sand.
No passengers according to police was affected or injured in the fires.
The exact cause of the fire has not been established, but preliminary investigations have attributed it to a short circuit in one of the headlamps.
The fire prevention and rescue services established that the bus did not have a fire extinguisher contrary to Road Safety and Traffic guidelines on PSV vehicles.
