Arua City police have arrested a 60-year-old man suspected of dealing in stolen vehicles.
The suspect, identified as Kiwabiye Abasi, a resident of Nansana–Ganda, was arrested on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at around 2:00 pm while attempting to sell a Toyota Raum, registration number UA 401AJ.
According to police, Abasi was apprehended in an operation where an undercover officer posed as a potential buyer. During the transaction, it was established that the suspect did not possess the required ownership and transfer documents for the vehicle.
Inspector of Police Ambuku Richard, the Officer in Charge of Operations in Arua City, confirmed the arrest and revealed that the illegal vehicle trade has been thriving quietly in the region.
“Our intelligence indicates that the suspect has been targeting unsuspecting buyers from the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan,” Ambuku said.
The suspect is currently in police custody at Arua Central Police Station as investigations continue. Police have urged the public to exercise vigilance when purchasing vehicles and to ensure proper verification of ownership documents through the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) and Uganda Police’s vehicle registry systems
