KAMPALA
Thugs who were arrested for raiding the home of former spokesperson Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, ASP Faridah Nampiima have said that the officer is the most broke person the world has seen.
The suspects David Mugula, Jamil Ssendawula, Ronald Mbazira, Ibra Nkalubo, and Fahad Akandwanaho have told police investigative team that they broke into Nampiima’s house hoping to find valuable household items and money. But, to their surprise, she was too broke with only Shs 200,000 in her house.
On May 13, a case of burglary was reported at Nampiima’s residence in Asimbwa zone, Kabowa parish, Rubaga Division. The armed thugs killed the officer’s private security guard, Matia Kintu Ssalongo, 70, beat up the children before they could walk away.
Police investigations identified that two mobile phones, a flat television screen and the Shs200,000 cash were stolen from the house.
The incident happened a few days after the officer was dropped from her position as PRO Traffic police over alleged mismanagement of funds.
While being interrogated by investigators, the thugs said they killed the guard (Kintu) after he attempted to sabotage their deal. The gang’s ring leader Nkalubo further revealed that they have before killed two more people in Wakiso district.
They added that they operate in a group of nine stealing mobile phones, motorcycles and vehicles and sometimes deploy Germany shepherd pet dogs at security suspicious homes to successfully accomplish their mission.
“Our dogs are too lethal and can tear any ordinary dog or people who intend to disrupt our mission. We also use guns in our mission. We have a car on which we load our looted items but we don’t know where they are taken. We are in most cases paid Shs 100,000 [each] for a night mission,” police source quotes Mbazira and Nkalubo.
The group was reportedly planning to attack a home in Bunga, Makindye Division but an intelligence tipoff aided police to intercept them before reaching the scene. Police have now resolved first to collect all the possible evidence before the group is charged in courts of law.
Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson earlier explained that some of the suspects particularly; Patrick Bewote and Aaron Kayemba have a pending murder case committed in 2022.
But, police are yet to get information from the suspects about the people who deploy them and the source of the two unrecovered guns used by the thugs.
