Bailed murder suspect, one other killed in mob justice.

MBARARA:

At least two people have been confirmed dead and two others still missing in critical conditions after they were attacked by an angry mob while supervising their garden farm that was destroyed by the unknown people six months ago.

The incident occurred on Tuesday at around 09:00hours in Kanyigiri village, Nyarubungo parish, Bukiro sub county Mbarara district.

It is alleged that five members of the family including; Muhairwe Innocent, 58, Ssenyonga Alex, 22, Tukahebwa Ponsiano, 24, Asingwire Lawrence, 18, and Turyahebwa Cleophas, 25, all residents of Kanyigiri cell had gone to check on their garden that was destroyed by unknown persons when they were suddenly attacked by a yet to identify angry mob armed with stones, pangas and sticks and killed in them two persons.

The deceased have been identified as Muhairwe Innocent (father( and Ssenyonga Alex (son), they were killed in a scuffle to run away from the mob.

Two other persons identified as Tukahebwa and Turyahebwa managed to escape with wounds but are still in hiding and are feared dead.

According to the Rwizi police spokesperson, Samson Kasasira, one person; Asingwire Lawrence managed to escape from the killers and is being accommodated at Mbarara Central Police Station for safety and to help police in investigations.

Reports indicate that the mob was allegedly revenging on this family after two of their members, Ssenyonga and Tukahebwa were granted court bail on charges of murder of a Boda Boda cyclist from the same village.

The duo were from reliable sources remanded to Mbarara main prison last year for killing a Boda Boda rider but to the angry mob’s dismay, they were three days ago on 1st October,2021.

No suspects have been so far arrested but police search is ongoing.
Kasasira has condemned the mob actions noting that they are illegal and inhuman urging all aggrieved members to always use lawful measures in solving matters.
