KANUNGU
Dr. Chris Baryomunsi has been installed as the Chancellor of the embattled Great Lakes Regional University, Kanungu, in a ceremony that coincided with the institution’s graduation event.
The event was graced by Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Thomas Tayebwa, who extended his congratulations to Dr. Baryomunsi on assuming the role. He also commended the graduates on their academic achievements and urged the local community to support the institution by enrolling their children there.
“The presence of this university in Kanungu is an opportunity that should be embraced,” Tayebwa said. “Education is the foundation of development, and I encourage parents to prioritize sending their children here.”
Dr. Baryomunsi, who also serves as Uganda’s Minister for ICT and National Guidance, takes on the chancellorship at a time when the university has faced administrative challenges. However, his installation is seen as a step toward stabilizing and strengthening the institution’s future.
The ceremony brought together government officials, education stakeholders, parents, and students, all hopeful for a revitalized chapter in the university’s journey.
