Bobi wine following the proceedings in Luzira Prison through video conferencing |
“Bobi Wine, his brother Mr Fred Nyanzi Ssentamu, and a one David Lule, another Edward Sebuwufu and others still at large, allegedly disobeyed lawful orders by holding an illegal protest contrary to section 116 of the Penal Code Act.”
Court was conducted through video conferencing in Luzira Prison to barr the accused from unlawful demonstrations something that angered his supporters who expected him to appear at Buganda Road Court. These would be heard sending rude comments inthe court room that at a certain point prompted the judge to send warning orders to the people in the gallery to respect the court room.
Court fixed the next hearing of the case on Thursday 23rd May, 2019 at 9AM.
State Prosecution says the musician who at the same time is a politician committed the offense in July 2018 and was arrested on Monday 29th April,2019 as he headed to Kibuli Police Criminal Investigation (CID) to respond to earlier police summons.
It was drama when the state prosecutor asked the court in his submission to cancel the bail application, reject Hon. Mbwatekamwa and Hon. Miria Mtembe as sureties claiming that for example Hon. Miria MATEMBE is of advanced age (64yrs) making her unable to visibly compel the accused to adhere to court rules. However, his request was given a cold shoulder and court ruled on the favour of the defendants.
