The country woke up to tragic news Saturday morning following the death of businessman Rajiv Ruparelia in a horrific car crash at the Busabala Flyover.

According to a statement from the Directorate of Traffic and Road Safety, the accident occurred at 1:54 AM when Rajiv’s Nissan GTR, registration number UAT 638L, collided with temporary pavement barriers at the roundabout section of the flyover. The vehicle reportedly lost control, overturned, and caught fire.
Rajiv, who was driving alone from Kajjansi toward Munyonyo, died instantly at the scene.

“Investigations are ongoing to establish the exact cause of the crash,” said SP Kananura Michael, the spokesperson for the traffic directorate. “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.”
Rajiv Ruparelia, 34, was the Managing Director of the Ruparelia Group, overseeing multiple ventures in real estate, education, and hospitality. He was also known for his charitable work and was seen as a rising figure in Uganda’s business landscape.
