Police in Kampala are investigating circumstances under which a Centenary Bank manager was burnt in an acid attack.
The incident according to the Kampala Metropolitan deputy police spokesperson, Luke Owoyesigyire happened on Tuesday evening at around 5pm in Makindye near the KCCA offices.
“Yesterday, 28/09/2021 at around 1700hrs, the police in Katwe received information that someone had been attacked by use of acid along Makindye Road near KCCA offices. The relevant police teams responded at the scene where the vehicle of the victim reg no. UAU 954J Probox grey in colour was found,”Owoyesigyie said.
ASP Owoyesigyire has identified the victim as Patrick Katantazi, the chief manager for the corporate section of Centenary Bank at Mapeera House Kampala.
Katantazi was attacked by two unknown assailants riding on a Boda Boda along Makindye road on his way going back. The assailants came from the rear of the victim’s vehicle and threw at him a jug full of liquid suspected to be acid.
The liquid splashed on the victim burning both his face and his clothes and part of his drive’s seat, but he was able to part the car on the roadside and ran out to Makindye medical centre for first aid.
Owoyegyire says police visited the crime seen area, picked samples of the liquid and submitted them to the government analytical laboratory in Wandegeya for examination.
He said police will use the footages in CCTV cameras to crackdown the assailants.
” With the help of CCTV cameras, we are hopeful the assailants will be arrested as soon as possible.” Owoyesigyire said.
By the time of compiling this story, the victim (Francis Katantazi) was admitted at Nsambya hospital for treatments.
