MBARARA
On April 26, at Mizabibu Gardens in Biharwe, Mbarara City, alumni of Chemequip Medical Laboratory Training School, Ishaka campus, gathered for a reunion. They emphasized the importance of unity as a foundation for personal and collective growth.
Namirembe Alexandria, the principal tutor of Ishaka campus, applauded the organizing team for initiating the reunion. She highlighted how this initiative benefits not just the alumni but also the institution itself. Namirembe pledged her support and encouraged the alumni to recruit more members into the association, noting that growth in numbers translates to greater opportunities. She also urged them to visit the campus and offer career guidance to the current students, helping them appreciate their courses and the medical laboratory profession.
Wafula Evans, the event’s mobilization lead, expressed gratitude to attendees for turning up in large numbers. He called on the alumni to continue mobilizing their peers to strengthen the association and support one another. Wafula encouraged members not to be discouraged by the initial modest numbers, emphasizing the need to collaborate with the school’s administration to reach out to more former students, which would also enhance school enrollment.
Rastus Masereka, an alum, commended the school for its excellent foundation, which shaped many into responsible individuals. Gilbert Akampa, from the 2008–2010 cohort, shared concerns about alumni struggling silently, some even facing mental health challenges. He urged members to reconnect with their peers to check on their wellbeing and offer assistance where necessary. “Associations like this exist to support our colleagues,” Gilbert emphasized.
During the reunion, the association elected its leadership: Wafula Evans as chairperson, Akora Grace as vice chairperson, Byamukama Bazilio as secretary, Juliet Atuganyire as treasurer, and Akampa Gilbert as speaker.
Osiime Isaac, the 2009 Guild President, underscored the need for setting clear targets as a foundation for progress. He encouraged members to set ambitious goals and work collectively toward achieving them, remarking, “We’ll identify committed members by their dedication to hitting agreed targets.”
The reunion marked a significant step in fostering connections and inspiring collaborative efforts for development among alumni. The organizers and attendees left energized to move forward together.
