Uganda’s Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) system has registered impressive results in its latest national assessment, with officials highlighting both inclusivity and strong participation across accredited centres.

Speaking during the release of the results, Dr. Kedrace Turyagyenda, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education and Sports, appealed to employers to support internships for TVET trainees. “UVTAB ensures the standards and assessment, but skills are acquired through practice. By providing hands-on opportunities, we prepare young Ugandans to enter the workforce ready and capable, making the vision of a modern, prosperous Uganda a reality,” she said.

The Uganda Vocational Qualifications and Training Assessment Board (UVTAB) reported that out of 27,460 candidates registered, 26,312 (96%) turned up for assessment across 543 accredited centres nationwide. Executive Secretary Onesmus Oyesigye (CPA) noted that the strong turnout reflects growing confidence in Uganda’s TVET pathways.

Inclusivity was also emphasized, with Oyesigye revealing that candidates with special needs achieved a 93% acquisition rate, demonstrating resilience and equity within the system.

The Board expressed gratitude to the 11th Parliament of Uganda for enacting the TVET Act 2025 and supporting the completion and commissioning of the National Skills Assessment Centre, a milestone expected to strengthen quality assurance and expand opportunities for learners.

In the Business National Certificate courses, 4,199 candidates registered (3,330 female, 868 male) with an 88% turnout. Female candidates dominated overall, particularly in Accounting & Finance, which recorded the highest numbers (1,041 females, 137 males).

Oyesigye underscored that these achievements signal a growing recognition of vocational education as a pathway to employment and national development. “The results show that Uganda’s TVET system is not only expanding but also becoming more inclusive and trusted by learners and communities,” he said.
