Police in Kampala are investigating circumstances underwhich a Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) soldier shot a civilian in a bar in Bukoto, Kampala.
The suspect whose identity has not been disclosed is a CNI officer but attached to Police Crime Intelligence Unit allegedly shot Moses Mugisha, 47, a businessman, at 400 Bar Bukoto.
Reports by Kira Road Police Station aid that the shooting followed a quarrel between the two over a woman.
Eye witnesses in Bukoto said that the scuffle started at around 1:30am when gunshots were heard.
Brig Flavia Byekwaso, the forces Spokesperson confirmed the incident, adding that the soldier had been deployed in the police Crime Intelligence Unit.
Brig Byekwaso said immediately after the incident, the suspect reported himself to the director of police Crime Intelligence, Brig Sserunjoji Damulira who issued instructions to CID Kira Road police station to investigate the incident.
Luke Owoyesigyire said police has already started investigations. He added; “There was a shooting at that bar and police visited the scene. They picked four pistol cartridges from the scene and efforts to have the suspect arrested are underway as investigations continue.”
