The Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has announced the appointment of Colonel Chris Magezi as the Acting Defence Public Information Officer (DDPIO). The announcement was made by the Chief of Joint Staff, Major General Jack Bakasumba, who entrusted Col. Magezi with the responsibility of running the office on an interim basis.
Colonel Magezi currently serves as the Military Assistant to the Chief of Defence Forces, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba. This new assignment is expected to complement his existing duties, ensuring seamless communication within the defence forces and with the media.
The acting role comes in light of the absence of the substantive DDPIO, Major General Felix Kulayigye, who is on a one-month leave. He is anticipated to return to his office after the 30-day period.
The UPDF has assured the general public and media stakeholders of continued transparent communication during this period. Major General Bakasumba stated that the temporary arrangement would maintain the high standards of the office.
This development underscores the UPDF’s commitment to effective communication and operational efficiency. Col. Magezi’s extensive experience is expected to contribute positively to the office during this interim period.
