KABALE,
By Gilbert Akampa Kakurugu
The Minister of Local Government Raphael Magyezi has disagreed with his counterpart, the Minister of State for finance in charge of general duties Henry Musasizi over the proposed Kabale city.
The government set 2025 as the year for operationalizing Kabale city, one of the administrative areas which were elevated to city status by virtue of a motion passed by Parliament in 2020.
However, on Sunday during his thanksgiving that was held at St Mary’s Cathedral Rushoroza Catholic Church in South Division of Kabale municipality aimed at raising funds to renovate the Church, Musasizi said that the people of Kabale should forget and drop their hopes about the elevation of Kabale municipality into city status.
Musasizi who is also the Rubanda East Member of Parliament said that formulation of new administrative units including a city is a wastage of government resources. This is because it has no contribution to the development of this country.
He said that the government led by president Museveni has decided to stop the formulation of new administrative units due to financial constraints.
In contrast to Musasizi’s comments, Raphael Magyezi, the Minister of Local Government, revealed to our reporter today that his ministry has not received any information from the head of state to change the position that Parliament approved in 2020 to operationalize the remaining five cities.
Magyezi said that he intends to meet Minister Musasizi to harmonize the information he uttered on Sunday. He added that people of Kabale should remain optimistic about the city saying that any changes should be officially communicated to people.
During his visit to the Kabale municipality to harmonize the irregularities within the reallocation of vendors to the newly constructed Kabale central market, Magyezi asked the people and the leadership of Kabale municipality to prepare and organize the municipality ahead of a proposed Kabale city come 2025.
