KAMPALA:
The Land Division of the High Court in Kampala has stopped the planned reopening of the Old Taxi Park that is schedueled for today.
The deputy court registrar, Janeve Natukunda, issued the interim injuction following an application filed by five companies claiming part of the park land.
The companies entered a consent agreement with Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) in December 2020, inwhich they agreed that KCCA would grant them their plots after completing works on the carpet.
Last evening, KCCA issued a statement stopping the reopening of the said park noting that they were in talks with Taxi Leadership to constitute a management structure of the park and agree on stage allocations within the park.
“KCCA wishes to inform the general public and other stakeholders that the Old Taxi Park will not be reopened tomorrow 20th October,2021 as earlier scheduled.” KCCA said in a statement.
KCCA did not however disclose that the delayed reopening has anything to do with the five companies that petioned court to stop the reopening.
