KANUNGU
The Kanungu deputy Resident District Commissioner, Gad Rugaaju Ahimbisibwe has said that the Friday violent strike at Kihiihi High School was premeditated ruling out initial suspicions of a rebel attack.
On Friday night, Kihiihi High School students staged a violent strike and vandalized a number of school property such as breaking classroom window glasses, electric wires and the headteacher’s car, Rav4 type registration number UAV 976W. The strike started on Friday night until Saturday morning.
It is alleged that the chaos erupted after a sudden power blackout enveloping the school into darkness. Further reports indicate that some students had a grudge against the school headteacher, Kenneth Mugimba accusing him of mismanagement which could have stemmed the strike.
“As students slept, some were abruptly awakened and started fleeing the school. Many of the fleeing students particularly the girls were met with police intervention resulting in firing of bullets,” D/RDC Rugaaju said
He added that 56 students were injured in the strike majority sustained the injuries as they attempted to escape from the dangers. They were rushed to Kihiihi HCIV for treatment.
On contrary, the school headteacher Kenneth Mugimba said the strike was due to some disgruntled students who were protesting against the suspension of their fellow student on allegations of illegal possession of a mobile phone in school.
According to the headteacher, mobile phones and other smart gadgets are prohibited and violates the school rules and regulations.
Police has been deployed to provide security at the school and investigations into the cause of the strike are ongoing.
But what is the matter with our school, I think the headteacher might be a problem
