Police in Rwampara is investigating circumstances under which 15 suspects escaped from lawful custody in the male cells at CPS Rwampara Buteraniro Nyeihanga Town Council Rwampara District on the 16th July,2023 at around midnight.
The suspects dug into the behind wall of the structure removing some of the bricks which created enough space for them to sneak out.
SSP Samson Kasasira the Rwizi region police spokesperson confirmed this and identified the suspects as Twinamatsiko Ignatious who was on charges of defilement, Ariho Erick on charges of theft, Aronda Salim who was found in possession of Marijuana, Muhumuza Barcklays on charges of theft, Tumwekwatse Yakobu on aggravated defilement, Nyesiga Jackson on domestic violence.
Among other suspects were Tujunirwe Medard on charges of threatening violence, Baguma Rogers on malicious damage of property, Akampa Benson on theft, Turinawe Laubel on obtaining money by false pretense, Kamugisha Denis on arson charges. He added that the other five were on charges of simple theft and these included Atukunda Lawrence,Mwijukye Joram,Tusiime Akara and Muhanguzi Ronald.
Inquiries into the escape have been opened and disciplinary action taken on officers who were on duty for neglect of duty.
“Search and efforts to re-arrest them is still going on but we also argue the public to be vigilant if the said suspects are seen anywhere to alert the authorities”, said Kasasira.
