As the nation prepares to mark 63 years of self-rule, Dokolo South County Member of Parliament, Hon. Felix Okot Ogong, has extended a heartfelt call for Ugandans to celebrate Independence Day peacefully and reflect on the profound significance of the occasion.
In a message ahead of the October 9, 2025, celebrations, the legislator emphasized that the day symbolizes the hard-won liberation from colonial rule and should be observed with joy and a spirit of national unity.
“Tomorrow’s celebration marks the liberation from the white where Ugandans should celebrate with joys and freedom,” Hon. Okot stated, reminding citizens of the historical struggle that paved the way for Uganda’s sovereignty. He framed the day not just as a public holiday, but as a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by forebears to secure the nation’s self-determination.
Going beyond the call for merrymaking, the MP issued a compelling appeal to leaders at all levels to ensure the celebrations are inclusive and reflective of the people’s role in the nation’s journey.
“He also urged leaders to consider Ugandans in the celebration because they were part of the liberation,” the message read. This underscores the belief that the fight for independence was a collective effort, and its commemoration should genuinely honour every citizen’s contribution, both past and present.
Hon. Okot’s message strikes a chord that resonates with the national theme of unity, urging a celebration that bridges the gap between leaders and the populace. His call is seen as an encouragement for events and actions that directly involve and benefit ordinary Ugandans, making the independence spirit feel alive and relevant.
