- Over 13 aspirants have picked up nomination forms to contest for parliamentary seats under the Democratic Party (DP) in the upcoming 2026 general elections. DP Electoral Commission Chairperson Kenedy Mutenyu announced that the nomination process, which started on July 2, 2025, will run until July 15, 2025.
Aspirants pay a fee of UGX 10,000 when picking up the forms, while nomination fees are paid upon return of the forms. This policy allows candidates to consult their supporters and secure backing before formally entering the race.
DP Secretary General emphasized that for positions such as Member of Parliament, LCV Chairpersons, and City Mayors, the return of nomination forms must be done at the party headquarters.
One notable aspirant is Moses Kyemba, DP Jinja chairman, who is vying for the Jinja North MP seat. Kyemba highlighted poor road networks, inadequate healthcare facilities, and a struggling education system as key challenges facing the constituency. He pledged to address these issues if elected.
The DP primaries will determine the party’s candidates for the 2026 general elections.
