The Democratic Party (DP) has asked government to deport Ugandans reportedly arrested and detained in Dubai.
The call has been made by Fred Mwesigwa, the presidential press Secretary of the DP president general, Nobert Mao on Tuesday.
Media reports show that over 1,000 Ugandans in Dubai are kept in one house commonly known as Kiyumba and are too stranded to return.
The incarcerated Ugandans were arrested by the Dubai immigration department following the expiry of their VISA stay while others are accused of having entered the country illegally in search of job opportunities.
DP has now asked the government of Uganda to take immediate actions and ensure that they are deported to the country.
Mwesigwa also urged Middle East embassies im Uganda to address the issue inhuman mistreatment of the black Africans by their governments before Ugandans rise up in large numbers to protest the stay of their nationals who are running successful businesses in the country
“Ugandans have never mistreated any of your origins but our people are being tortured in your states, their organs are being removed and sold. Stop mistreating our people. Respect fundamental human rights of Ugandans,” he urged.
DP further suggested that government should stop labour exportation business and work on issues affecting the populace such as poverty and unemployment.
According to Lawrence Egulu, the commissioner in charge of Employment Services at the Ministry of Gender, Labour, and Social Development (MGLSD), Uganda exports about 2,000 domestic labourers to the Middle East per month making a tally of about 24,000 migrants a year.
These are running from starvation and financial ruin due to joblessness.
