The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced that it will resume the issuance of voter location slips to all registered voters across the country, ahead of the 2026 general elections.
EC chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama said the slips will indicate each voter’s specific polling station to enable them to easily locate where they will cast their ballots on polling day. He directed EC staff, particularly parish supervisors, under the guidance of county supervisors and district election administrators to ensure that every voter receives their slip.
Uganda currently has 21,681,491 registered voters, according to EC records. Of these, 10,334,362 are male, representing 47%, while 11,347,129 are female, accounting for 53%.
“The female voters are more than the male,” Byabakama noted.
Byabakama urged all registered voters to participate in the elections. “The Commission once again wishes to urge all registered voters to turn up on the respective polling days to exercise their right to vote and choose leaders of their choice at all levels,” he said.
As of November 13, 2025, Uganda has 146 districts, 312 counties, 353 constituencies, 2,191 sub-counties/town councils/municipal divisions, 10,770 parishes, 71,240 villages, and 50,739 polling stations.
The Commission also announced November 27 and 28, 2025 as the dates for fresh nominations in electoral areas where nominated candidates have died. A total of 83,597 candidates had earlier been nominated to contest for 45,505 elective positions from president to sub-county councillor. However, some vacancies have since emerged following the death of certain candidates.
“In accordance with Section 26 of the Parliamentary Elections Act, we set aside November 27 and 28 as the dates for conducting fresh nominations across the country, because that is what the law provides,” Byabakama said.
He clarified that candidates who were previously nominated and are still alive will not be required to undergo the nomination process again.
“Those ones remain duly nominated,” he said.
According to the EC roadmap, polling for presidential and parliamentary elections will take place on January 15, 2026. Byabakama appealed to Ugandans to turn up in large numbers and exercise their voting rights.
