Police has today charged to the Anti corruption court the Kisiizi Hospital financial manager Ronnie Okello Ameri with embezzlement of billions of ugandan shillings from his employee.

Okello 35, a resident of Andrews village Kyamugorani in Mbarara City was arrested few weeks ago on allegations of embezzling ugx 1.23 billion which was meant for the procurement of medicines between January 2019 and May 2020.

In a court sitting on Wednesday chaired by Justice Moses Nabende, court heard had that Ronnie Ameri Okello between January 2019 and March 2021in Rukungiri district being employed by the Church of Uganda Kisiizi hospital in Rukungiri district as the Finance manager stole UGx 10,237100,00 – the property of his employer which he had access to by the virtue of his office.

He was then charged and remanded to Kitalya Maximum Prison in Wakiso district until May 12 when he will reappear.

Nabende did not allow Okello to take plae since his case is criminal in nature and beyond his jurisdiction. He added that Okello’s case can only be handled by the High Court.

Nabende says that Okello will appear before the court through video conferencing while in Kitalya prison.

The charge was consented by the Director of Public Prosecutions Jane Francis Abodo.

About Kisiizi hospital.

Kisiizi Hospital is a community hospital affiliated with the Anglican Church of Uganda. It was founded by missionary John Sharp in 1958 and was later taken over by the North Kigezi Diocese in Rukungiri District.

Moses Mugume, the senior hospital administrator says that Okello would use forged documents and receipts to account for the money, while the hospital struggled with shortage of drugs.
