A farmer in Kicwamba Kasese district has been reported dead after he was trampled and killed by a stray elephant after herd destroyed his crops.
The deceased is Osbert Nuwamanya, a resident of Bigando village Kicwamba Sub-county in Kasese district.
Obed Turyasingura, who was with the deceased when the incident happened said that they attempted to scare away the herd from destroying their crops but one of them got charged and started running over them.
The charged elephant eventually caught up with Nuwamanya as he attempted to flee trampling him to death.
The said herd had reportedly escaped from Kibaale National Park.
By press time, no official communication had been issued by Uganda Wildlife Authority regarding the incident. Attempts to speak to UWA officials at Kibaale National Park remained futile.
