Police in Kwania district are holding in their custody one suspect on allegations of killing his biological father in a domestic violence.
Ronald Obonyo, 20, allegedly murdered his father Robert Opio, 45, on the night of July 7, 2025.
Preliminary reports suggest that the suspect was involved in a domestic fight with his wife, Oliver Auma who he accused of infidelity, when his father (Opio Robert) intervened to stop the altercation, he was allegedly attacked by his son, who beat him severely with sticks. Opio lost consciousness and later succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to Aduku Health Centre IV.
The case was promptly registered at Atongtidi Police Post and transferred to Kwania Central Police Station (CPS).
A team of investigators, including Scene of Crime Officers (SOCO) led by D/AIP Iggama William, visited the scene. However, initial documentation was delayed due to the highly charged emotional atmosphere in the community.
“Preliminary findings indicate the crime was domestically motivated, but the level of violence used was excessive and criminal,” police reported.

“The suspect, upon completion of investigations, likely to be charged of murder, contrary to Section 171 and 172 of the Penal Code Act,” said SP Okema.

“We are closely working with the local leadership and community structures to defuse tension, ensure calm, and allow lawful processes proceed without interruption,” he said.
