Journalists have been blocked from accessing premises for the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) at Najjanankumbi to cover the planned media briefing by the party National chairman Ambassador Wasswa Birigwa.
On Wednesday, the FDC faction at Katonga road offices issued a notice to invite the media to attend a press briefing by Amb Birigwa at Najjanankumbi the next day.
Journalists armed with instruments of their profession woken up to Najjanankumbi but were disappointed when they found offices blocked from the main entrance by security personnel.
At around 10:30am, Ambassador Wasswa Birigwa arrived at the party headquarters in his black Nissan Patrol Land cruiser registration number UBA 237G but was first blocked from accessing the premises.
After a short time, he was let in but his vehicle and the driver denied entry.
Birigwa is accused of attempting to takeover the duties of the party Electoral Commission after he allegedly suspended the forthcoming party elections scheduled between 21and 23rd July, 2023.
Mugisha Okwera Moses, the FDC party Chairperson for Nakawa division said Birigwa has no authority to suspend party elections because that is the responsibility of the party EC to conduct elections
He however condemned the act of blocking journalists and other officials from accessing the premises noting that the FDC is a party for everyone.
