FDC Katonga faction has issued a Notice of Authority to several banks to temporarily remove Hon. Nandala Mafabi and Geoffrey Ekanya as signatories on party bank accounts.

Erias Lukwago, the newly appointed FDC interim party president said at a media briefing on Monday that Nandala and the treasurer general are still serving their suspension and therefore cannot transact on behalf of the party.

“We have the secretary-general and the treasurer as signatories to the party accounts who are in suspension. As long as they remain in suspension, their signatures on those accounts cannot be valid,” he added.

In response to Lukwago’s actions, John Kikonyogo, the candidate for FDC spokesperson (Najjanankumbi fact) said Lord Mayor Lukwago and Katonga fact have no authority to change signatories on party bank accounts.

FDC interim president Erias Lukwago in company of other party leaders; Hon. Ssemujju Nganda (MP Kira municipality) and Hon. Nyakato Asinansi (WMP Hoima) addressing the press conference at Katonga road on Monday 25 September, 2023.

“Anybody can think of taking these signatures, but a bank is not like a market where you go and tell them that now I am the big man because you’re putting on a nice suit. It’s a process. And the only person who is authorized to write on behalf of the party is the Secretary General,” Kikonyogo warned.

During, the Katonga faction media briefing, Lukwago said he had called the National Executive Committee of FDC in a meeting due on Thursday September 28 to discuss the electoral roadmap for fresh elections within the party and also revealed plans to hold public mobilization rallies across the country against ‘bad leadership’ at Najjanankumbi.

“We assure you that we are going to conduct a credible electoral process befitting the party our forefathers established, and the constitution is respected in that regard,” said Lukwago.

Earlier on, Lukwago told journalists that the FDC electoral commission headed by Hon. Boniface Toterebuka Bamwenda is incompetent and unlawful because the lawful commission chairman was directed to Yusuf Nsibambi.

Kikonyogo however wondered how Lukwago who calls himself the “rule of law master” would take his nomination forms to Toterebuka for vetting yet he says he is illegally occupying the position. He said Toterebuka was elected the Acting EC chairman by the NEC after the substantive chairman, Nsibambi decided to step aside to contest for MP, a requirement for anybody holding office in the FDC to avoid conflicts of interest.

“Lukwago came yesterday to NEC through backdoors and was not elected by the delegates conference as he has been purporting. He came to NEC because Hon. Amuriat appointed him a Vice President,” Kikonyogo said.

He advised the Lord Mayor to respect the leadership at Najjanankumbi if he and his group are working for the interests of the people of Uganda.
