“In fact, Museveni and his wife must be placed under institutional quarantine be cause they have been attending cabinet meetings and press briefings with Rugunda.”
Uganda’s biggest opposition political party FDC has suggested that the President and his wife, the First Lady Mama Janet Kataha be placed under institutional quarantine for 14 days and get tested for COVID-19 because they have been close contacts with Prime Minister Rugunda.
FDC’s call follow the recent announcements by PM Ruhakana Rugunda to go into self isolation after some of the people he came in contact with tested positive for corona virus.
Patrick Oboi Amuriat, the FDC President said that Museveni and his wife have been close contacts to Rugunda attending cabinet and press briefings with him which requires them under go mandatory quarantine.
“In fact, Museveni and his wife must be placed under institutional quarantine be cause they have been attending cabinet meetings and press briefings with Rugunda.”
Amuriat was speaking to journalists today during a party’s weekly media briefing at party headquarters in Najjanankumbi Kampala.
In his speech, he blamed the increased number of COVID-19 community cases on government failure to close down borders which has increased influxes of truck drivers in the country.
“The population cannot continue suffering because of greed for taxes and personal gains. It is the main reason trucks are untouchable,” Amuriat alarmed.
According to Ministry of Health, World Health Organiz) and other Health Experts, recommend that any person known for being a contact of COVID-19 infected person is required to be put under institutional quarantine for a period of not less than 14days while health workers examine his/ her health status.
FDC further agitated for mass testing at border areas such as Mutukula, Busia, Malabar, Elegu among others. He added that testing a few people and leaving out thousands put lives of country citizens at a risk of contracting the virus.
During the media briefing, fdc expressed concerns on government’s steps to ease lockdown on public transport and other merchandises.
According to the FDC, government is using the phased up reopening of public transport as a way of punishing those perceived to be supporters of the oppsition.
They called for equal opportunities for everyone to transit in another economic activity. Fdc urges that the party won’t accept the maneuvers to phase out Boda Boda transport in the country.
These claim that operators in the Boda Boda industry and other public transport are oftentimes sole bread winners to their families while others procured their Boda Bodas on loans which they need to clear. Phasing them out therefore would mean depriving them of their legal means to earn a living.
FDC threatened to organize a protest if no actions are taken to stop registration of long route Taxis and buses under KCCA yet they operate outside Kampala.
