Police in Mbarara has in it’s custody three students of Welden school on charges of arson.
These and others still at large are alleged to have set ablaze senior one boy’s dormitory which housed 50 students in the morning of 3rd July 2023.
Samson Kasasira the Rwizi region police spokesperson has confirmed this incidence noting that the fire destroyed all the student’s property although no life was lost.
He said the Police Fire and Rescue Services team successfully responded to the scene and was able to extinguish the fire before it could spread to other school structures.
He attributed the source of the fire to unruly students who are alleged to have intentionally started the fire to damage school property.
Kasasira appealed to anyone with information that may assist in the ongoing probe to come forward and report to the authorities.
Welden school is located in Kitebero cell Katete ward, Mbarara City South Division.
