Police in Greater Bushenyi are investigating the circumstances under which a fire gutted a dormitory at All Saints Preparatory Primary School in Nyakashaaru Ward, Rubirizi Town Council, Rubirizi District.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Thursday, August 28, 2025, at around 6:00am. According to police, the fire destroyed property belonging to pupils, including beds and suitcases, before it was contained.
Police spokesperson for Greater Bushenyi Region, SP Tayebwa Apollo, said the fire prevention and rescue team responded promptly after receiving a distress call but found locals already struggling to extinguish the blaze.
“Our fire team managed to put it off, preventing it from spreading further and causing more destruction. No life was lost or injured,” Tayebwa said in a statement.
The affected dormitory was partially destroyed, and the value of the property lost is yet to be established. Police have launched investigations into the exact cause of the fire.
Authorities have urged schools and members of the public to adhere strictly to fire safety precautions to prevent similar incidents in the future.
