President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni will on August 10, 2023, meet leaders of the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) to discuss on the unfair distribution of advertising funds across public and privately owned media.
This follows a nationwide boycott by the broadcasters against covering government activities following a directive by President Museveni that limited funding of government activities in the media to only state-owned Uganda Broadcasting Corporation (UBC) and the New Vision.
The broadcasters have suspended coverage of government activities until the directive is reverted.
The ban includes communication from the cabinet, Uganda Media Center, provision of free airtime on Radio, TVs and online to government officials as well as other channels through which the government communicates.
