Police in Mbarara are investigating a fire that burnt a timber yard located on Victor Bwana Road in Mbarara City Central Division. The incident occurred at around 2:00 pm, and a team of Fire and Rescue Service was dispatched to the scene to extinguish the fire, which had already caused significant damage due to the flammable materials in the yard and makeshift structures made of wood that fueled it.
According to preliminary investigations, it is alleged that the fire started from someone cooking near the timber yard.
Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson, SSP Samson Kasasira confirmed the incident and advised the public to be cautious while lighting fires during this dry season to prevent the spread of fire.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the fire did not spread to neighboring buildings. Police are continuing with their investigations to identify the cause of the fire.
