MBARARA CITY
A late-night fire on Thursday morning destroyed the home of Buyondo Moses, a former contestant for Nyamitanga Division counselor, leaving the structure in ruins though all household property was rescued.
The incident occurred in Nyamitanga, Mbarara City South, when flames broke out in the kitchen and quickly spread to the ceiling before engulfing the house.
Buyondo, who was inside at the time, said the family only realized the danger when the fire had already reached the roof.
“We could have forgotten to put off the fire in the kitchen when we went to sleep,”
Buyondo narrated, visibly shaken by the ordeal.
Firefighters from Humanitarian Help for Uganda under the Mbarara Archdiocese responded promptly, managing to save all belongings despite the house being reduced to ashes.Police have not yet issued an official statement regarding the incident, but preliminary accounts suggest negligence in extinguishing kitchen firewood may have triggered the blaze.
The destruction of Buyondo’s residence has drawn sympathy from neighbors and community members, many of whom praised the swift intervention of the humanitarian fire brigade.
