Former cabinet minister of environment and Adjumani district former Woman member of parliament 𝐇𝐨𝐧. 𝐉𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐜𝐚 𝐄𝐫𝐢𝐲𝐨 is dead.
Eriyo, who is also the former Deputy Secretary General of the East African Community passed on Friday (August 12) at around 7.29 am at the MD Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas in the United States.
“I regret to announce the death of a member of the Board of USPC, former Minister of State for Environment, and Deputy Secretary General East African Community, Hon. Jesca Eriyo, who has died in Texas, USA. Our prayers are with family and friends,” Ms Milly Babalanda, the minister for presidency announced on Friday evening
According to a family source, the honourable has been hospitalized for a couple of months battling with cancer which she was first diagnosed in September 2019.
After rounds of chemotherapy and other treatments for three months at the hospital, there were improvements, but she developed complications. The cancer had also advanced in stage. She was 52 years old.
She was first elected as the Adjumani District Woman Member of Parliament in 2001 and was re-elected for the second term in 2006 on the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ticket.
She served as the state minister for environment from 2006 until 2011 when she lost her parliamentary seat.
