Former state minister for privatization and Rukiga County Member of Parliament, Manzi Tumubweine is dead.
Tumubweine succumbed to Covid-19 on Friday night at Case clinic in Kampala where he has been receiving treatment, the deceased son, Dr Tumubweine Twinemanzi confirmed.
“It’s true he died last night and we are yet to hold a family meeting to discuss the burial arrangements,” he said.
Tumubweine served as state minister for privatisation in early days of President Museveni and legislator for Rukiga county in present-day Rukiga district.
By the time of his death, he was the chairman of the Kabale university governing council.
The University Secretary Johnson Baryantuma Munono has described the deceased as a developmental and resourceful leaderwho served with diligence and helped in soliciting funds for the growth of the university.
“The fact that he has been the chairman for Kabale University Council, Tumubweine was people-centered, never selfish, happy with any new development done at the university and resourceful in mobilizing funds for the growth of Kabale University. We have lost a real material as a university,” he said.
The Kabale University vice-chancellor Prof Joy Kwesiga said that they were lucky to have Tumubweine because he was committed while executing duties and responsibilities related to Kabale University.
On May 28, Tumubweine collapsed at the Kabale university 5th graduation ceremony after ddressing graduands. He was then rushed to Kabale Regional Referral Hospital from where he was taken to Case Clinic in Kampala where he breathed his last.
