MASAKA
Police in the Greater Masaka East Region have arrested four suspects in an ongoing crackdown on a gang believed to be behind the recent wave of murders and motorcycle thefts in Nyendo-Mukungwe.
The arrests followed a targeted operation after several boda boda riders were brutally killed and their motorcycles stolen in the area.
According to security sources, detectives from Nyendo Police Station and the Masaka East Regional headquarters conducted coordinated raids on two lodges; Kibata Guest House in Misaali and Copra Guest House in Kayirikiti, where the suspects were rounded up.
During the operation, police impounded more than 40 motorcycles believed to have been stolen and dismantled for sale or spare parts. The motorcycles are currently parked at Nyendo Police Station pending verification and identification by their rightful owners.
Police says the operation was part of a wider campaign to dismantle criminal networks preying on boda boda riders in the area.
“We are following strong leads and expect to make more arrests. We shall not rest until all those involved are apprehended and prosecuted,” Police said.
Police have urged members of the public, particularly motorcycle owners, to report stolen bikes and assist investigators in tracing serial numbers for possible recovery.
Meanwhile, security patrols have been intensified across Nyendo, Kayirikiti, and Misaali to curb further attacks on riders.
