Police have arrested four teachers accused of possessing and disseminating counterfeit Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) examination papers online.
The suspects, identified as Bakashaba Vincent from Kimongole Primary School in Isingiro, Muheki Vincent from Vision Primary School in Ibanda, Pabeku Albert from Stoneridge Primary School in Kira, and Oyet Hosea from Dignitary Junior School in Rukungiri, were reportedly circulating fake examination papers on different social media platforms extorting money from unsuspecting individuals.
Police reports allege that the four teachers were allegedly charging 750,000 Ugandan shillings per set of the supposed four PLE papers.
They were arrested and are currently in police custody and are scheduled to appear in court for plea taking on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.
Jennifer Kalule Musamba, UNEB Principal Public Relations Officer condemned the actions, and urged the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent examination schemes.
Section 25 of the UNEB Act, CAP 259 prohibits and criminalizes unauthorized possession or dissemination of examination materials, whether in print or electronic form. The law sets penalties against violators including a fine of up to one thousand currency points (equivalent to 20 million Ugandan shillings) or up to five years in prison, or both, on conviction.
“The UNEB Act is in place to protect the sanctity of our education system, and anyone found compromising this will be held accountable,” Kalule-Musamba stated.
UNEB also urged parents, teachers, and students to report any suspicious activities related to examination fraud.
