The Commander in Chief of the UPDF also the President of Uganda, H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has on Thursday (August 31,2023) retired former Inspector General of Police (IGP) Gen. Edward Kalekyezi Kayihura and a select group of the updf Generals.
The function for retiring the older military officials was held in Entebbe at the president’s home today afternoon.
Gen. Kayihura goes into retirement having served in the Ugandan army for 40yrs. He has been a darling to the regime until 2018 when the government accuses him of kidnap charges of Rwandese in Uganda.
Among the group of military officers who retired from the army today include Brig. E. Kwihangana who joined the army in November 1973.
Some of the soldiers have been escorted by their relatives whereas others are were alone at the ceremony.
Notable guests present at the function were Minister of Defense and Veteran Affairs of Uganda Vincent Ssempijja, and Gen. Wilson Mbasu Mbadi, the Chief of Defense Forces.
Other military officials present at this event were Brig. Gen. Kaija, Brig. Gen Oluka, Lt. Gen. Malibu’s Lakara, Maj. Gen. Wasswa, Brig. Kamanyire, Maj. Gen. D Wakalo, Maj. Gen. Orocha, Brig. Gen. Frank Kyambadde and Brig. Gen. Muhabuzi.
93 military officers who are at the ranks of Colonels, Lieutenant Colonels and Majors were retired by the Deputy Chief of Defense Forces Lt. Gen. Peter Elwelu last week. The function room place last week on 25/08/2023 at the Ministry in Mbuya, Kampala.
