Officials in the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) have commended government for putting mechanisms in place that are allowing the S.4 Candidates to sit for their Uganda Certification of Education (UCE) exams that commenced last week on Friday with briefing.
This has been expressed by the party spokesperson Arach Oyat Sharon and the UPC head of media and Communications, Muzeyi Faizo duting the press briefing at Uganda House on Monday.
It should be recalled that at the beginning of the examinations government warned Headteachers from pulling out fee defaulters from examination rooms, deployed security personnel to ensure safety protection of exans against malpractice, health and safety guidelines for ebola in affected districts among other mechanisms.
The UPC officials however, asked government to continue upholding the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) on ebola throughout the entire examinations process for healthy and safety of learners.
“This needs vigilance, full observation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) by the Ministry of Health (MoH), and a multi-sectorial approach especially in the affected districts of Mubende and Kassanda until the review in lifting of the lockdown.” Arach said
The duo also tasked government to pay teachers renumerations to motivate them during this examinations period
“UPC urges government to clear all outstanding salaries and allowances for the teachers to motivate and make them more focused during the examination period,”
Parents have also been implored to clear school fees arrears to help schools out of difficulties like accumulating loans in the banks.
Furthermore, the UPC appeals to students to stay calm and preserve discipline so as to ensure a successful examination process.
