Police in Kampala is investigating circumstances underwhich government drugs estimated to be worth Shs1billion ended up at Brocch Medical Services a private clinic in Nansana.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesman, Luke Owoyesigyire said patriotic residents informed police of a truck that was offloading boxes of drugs on to other cars on Thursday.
Police from Nansana led by OCCID on Thursday at around 5PM raided the area and found some of the offloaded drug boxes at a clinic in Gganda Nansana municipality Wakiso district.
A Tipper truck registration number UAP 088P with some of the boxes of drugs marked National Medical Stores, USAID and Government of Uganda was also found still stationed at the clinic.
Owoyesigyire says a nurse at the clinic identified as Patience Kilenzi was arredted to help police in investigations.
“We arrested the nurse at the clinic and also impounded the vehicle. Investigations to establish other vehicles that took other boxes of drugs is ongoing,” ASP Owoyesigyire said.
The arrested nurse was by publication time still held at Nansana police station.
Owoyesigyire added that they have invited officials from the ministry of health to help them trace the origin of the drugs.
He said after expert’s analysis, police will determine clear offences against the suspects.
This comes barely less than a week when police recovered government COVID-19 vaccines in private pharmacies and hospitals such as Victoria hospital Kampala and First pharmacy Wandegeya among others.
Over 805 doses of Astrazenac vaccines, vaccination cards, Facemasks were recovered at either clinics and about 12 suspects were arrested.
