Uganda cut number of delegates to attend to the forthcoming sixty-eighth(68) session of the Commission on the Status of Women(CSW) in New York to from 88 to 33. Some go for showbiz, said gender and culture minister Peace Mutuuzo.

Only 33 selected delegates have been selected to represent Uganda at the forthcoming sixty-eighth(68) session of the Commission on the Status of Women(CSW) due to take place from 11 to 22 March 2024 in New York.

These have been advised to prioritize issues developing Ugandan women than their personal goals.

The Gender and Culture Affairs State Minister, Peace Mutuuzo who presided over the preparation meeting held at Serena hotel kampala disclosed that as the government this time decide to reduce on the number of delegates because they have found that if they are many some don’t attend the conference but go for their personal businesses hence misuse of taxpayers money.

“Even the country does not have enough money to facilitate many delegates” Mutuuzo added.

“You should benchmark well to help Women of Uganda improve their social economic standards to compete with men in developmental issues” she emphasized.

The 68th CSW is organized under the theme; “Accelerating the achievement of gender equality and the empowerment of all women and girls by addressing poverty and strengthening institutions and financing with a gender perspective”.

The session will also review the agreed conclusions of the sixty-third session, “Social protection systems, access to public services and sustainable infrastructure for gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls”.

Minister Mutuuzo further asked the selected delegates to prepare for changes in weather patterns in the US.

“Those going in New York be prepared of the weather, food, clothing because many go and fail to attend conferences because the weather, food among others are not familiar which cause body changes and sometimes sickness” Mutuuzo concluded.
