Government through the ministry of education and sports has dropped the idea of procuring 9 million home learning radio sets to procure printed home study materials to enable continuous learning for students at home.

This was disclosed by the state minister for higher institutions, JC Muyingo, on Thursday while appearing before the parliamentary committee on government assurance and implementation chaired by Kalungu west member of parliament Joseph Sewungu.

Muyingo disclosed that government has committed Shs 48.5 billion to procure home study materials for learners in primary one to primary four and senior five and senior six who had been left out in the earlier programs.

“The ministry of education will use 48 billion shillings to print home study materials for primary 1-4 and Senior 5-6. Previously the ministry used 34 billion shillings. The materials are meant to be free of charge.” minister Muyingo said.

He further revealed ministry plans to put emphasis on first year classes to enable them finalize their studies so that they can make room for the new entrants.

The study materials according to the ministry of Education spokesperson, Dr. Denis Mugimba will be distributed to both learners in government aided and private schools at a free cost.

“Government through the ministry of Education is going to distribute books to students in private & Govt Aided Schools. These home study materials are free of charge,” Dr. Mugimba said.

He appealed to school heads to use their structures to mobilize students above 18yrs to be vaccinated.
