Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, the Minister of Health in Uganda has revealed that her ministry shall use Shs 2 billions in the distribution of face masks exercise across the country.
Minister Aceng was speaking to the media during the flag off of over 750,000 face masks to border districts today at the Ministry Headquarters in Nakaseero.
According to her, government used 79b in the procurement of masks with each mask being bought at Ugx 2,400/=.
Gen Moses Ali, the 1st Deputy Prime Minister, flagged off the masks which shall be used to the communities in birder districts of Busia, Adjuman, Amuru, Kyotera and Rakai.He said that gov’t through the MoH is set to distribute about 30millions face masks across the country.
MoH stated that the distribution of free face masks is part of the government’s intervention to prevent the spread of corona virus disease.
The dustributed masks are made up of three layers. The outer layer is 65% polyester and 35% cotton, the middle layer is made up of chiffon while the inner most layer is made up of cotton.
Yesterday, during the Heros Day address, Predident Museveni stated that the distribution of government free masks would commence today June 10th.
However, earlier today, Dr Diana Atwiine, the Permanent Secretary MoH was reportedly quoted saying that the distribution would not be today as earlier announced by the President.
She added that the production of three layer masks recimmended by the health experts had not yet started contrary to what ministry did.
