Two persons have been killed in last night’s armed attack in Kasule Ayanguwa village Budde sub-county Butambala district.
ASP Lydia Tumushabe, the spokesperson for Katonga region police says that the unknown assailants attacked the village moments after police had evacuated two suspected cattle thieves rescuing them from a mob.
“On the 9.12.2022, at around 11pm local time, the Police at Kyabadaza Station, recieved a disturbance call from the LC 3 Chairperson, about two suspected cattle thieves on two motorcycles, who were on the verge of being lynched by the community, at Kasule Ayanguwa village. Budde Subcounty in Butambala District. A task team immediately responded, rescued the two suspected cattle thieves and took them into custody at Butambala police station.” ASP Tumushabe said
Three men also travelling on a Boda Boda appeared out of the blue and started inquiring about what happened. Suspicious of the men, residents threatened to arrest them, unfortunately, they were armed with a gun.
“The suspects drew out their gun and shot at the residents gathered, killing two instantly.” ASP Tumushabe said
She identified the deceased persons as, Kalyango Ibra and Nsubuga Peter all residents of the same village.
The Katonga region police mouthpiece further disclosed that the armed assailants proceeded to Kyabadaza police station and attacked officers on duty and started exchanging bullets which paved way for the previously arrested suspected cattle thieves and the assailants to escape.
However, no officers were injured and guns lost besides part of the offices that got burnt.
Tumushabe says that the motive of the suspects has not yet been determined.
Police has already dispatched a team of evidence response teams to process the crime scene.
“Our operational and intelligence teams have embarked on a mission to identify the atrackers and ensure they are brought to book,” she explained
