The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has warned headteachers against stopping senior four students who have not fully paid school dues from sitting for Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) exams today start today afternoon with the briefing of candidates.
Addressing journalists at Uganda Media Centre on Friday, UNEB Executive Director Dan Odongo said the board does not have authority to enforce payment of tuition fees but asked parents to handle school fees issues with the leading management of schools.
“The Board doesn’t have any authority on the enforcement of fees or directing headteachers on how they should manage fees,” said UNEB ED Dan Odongo
The Executive Director however cautioned headteachers against sending students out of the examination rooms noting that examination rooms are gazetted for UNEB activities.
”We are also advising the heads of centres to be human to avoid the act of pulling out canidates once they have already entered the Examination room’ Dan odong further cautions.
He asked heads of schools to compile details of the defaulting candidates and submit them to UNEB to help schools in recovering their fees.
“The board will work with the schools to put in place measures to assist them in recovering their fees even after the examination has been done by a defaulting candidate,” said Odongo
Candidates have also been urged to maintain discipline and adhere to school rules and regulations during the entire examination process.
“UNEB will neither be involved nor sympathize with a candidate or candidates subjected to strict disciplinary measures by the school on account of indiscipline.”
